Albert Einstein said:
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.
Now, looking back to my travel to Thailand I have a strong feeling that the level of human stupidity in the city called Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is significantly lower than average in the world.
All seems to work unbelievably fine there. Embassies give visas without crazy bureaucracy. Tuk-tuk and songthaew drivers know the city well. Guesthouses offer free wi-fi which is pleasantly fast. Food and accommodation is cheap and good. Many annoyances that are present in the region disappear in Chiang Mai.
There should definitely be something in the city’s air or water, or maybe some minerals in the surrounding mountains that reduce stupidity. Or maybe some plants? Insects? I think that a careful scientific investigation should be undertaken, and who knows, maybe a cure against stupidity will be found so that the Einstein’s statement won’t hold anymore.
